Rick Gilbert Memorial - 72 dpi

It is with a heavy heart that Local 2546 announces the passing of our Englewood Brother Rick Gilbert on May 24th 2015. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Astrid, his immediate and extended family, and his friends as they mourn this tragic, unexpected loss.

Rick was hired by the Englewood Area Fire Control District on January 11th, 2008. Firehouse rumor was that he was likely hired for his reputation as a connoisseur of Spanish cuisine and, in particular, for his “Mean Enchilada” recipe, which was simply the best ever made. He was affectionately known to his fellow Firefighters as “The Ninja” because of his unexpected antics and prowess as an extreme sports and martial arts enthusiast. The guys say he could appear suddenly in a room, either without making a sound or, more dramatically, with some martial arts “Bruce Lee” move.

Rick loved his job as a Firefighter/EMT and was viewed by his peers a true professional. Rick came from a Firefighter family that hails from Downer’s Grove, Illinois. His Father, Richard, and his Uncles (Jim, Mike, and Dan) were all Firefighters. His younger brother, Brian, is an Emergency Medical Technician in Austin, Texas.

Rest in Peace Brother Rick, until we meet again…
